Summer Art and Nature Workshop

During the summer we offer our children the opportunity to participate in a mixed age “Art and Nature Workshop”. Through stories, art, music, and dance we explore the richness and glorious bounty of a Michigan summer. We spend as much of the day as possible outdoors and simply revel in the warmth and slowness of this extended time of discovery and creativity together.

The summer session brings us studies in ceramics and multi-media art. Jim McGrath, our "Naturalist in Residence" from Nature Discovery, returns to share his knowledge of and passion for Michigan's indigenous flora and fauna. The children will join him for discussions, explorations and FUN! Kellyn Uhl, our Creative Movement instructor, joins us to share her delightfully creative ability to get every child moving (and smiling!) in the Michigan sunshine. Wanda Degen will also be "on deck" to share her instruments, puppets and knowledge of traditional music with us, enthralling us with her impressive and heart warming repertoire of Michigan favorites.

We extend the daily hours of the Summer Workshop to allow us more time together to work, explore, create and discover.  We share lunch daily as well. Detailed information will be provided to registered families prior to the Workshop's start.

Our Summer Workshops are always popular, and are joyfully embraced by the children, parents, and teachers alike! ONS families receive registration information via email, usually around the middle of February each year. First priority is always given to our current Afternooners for a "last hoorah!", with any remaining spots typically being filled by other currently enrolled ONS students.

We have to teach our children to love the Earth; before we can ask them to save it. ~Rachel Carson
